Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Champai Soren was sworn-in as the twelfth Chief Minister of the state on Friday (2 February).

Soren was administered the oath of office by Governor C P Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi.

He was accompanied by Satyanand Bhokta and Alamgir Alam who were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers.

The Champai Soren-led state government will now seek the trust vote in the Jharkhand legislative Assembly on Monday (5 February).

After the swearing-in, several legislators of the ruling JMM-Congress-RJD alliance are being shifted to Hyderabad ahead of the floor test in the Assembly in a bid to prevent poaching of the MLAs.

In the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, the majority alliance has 47 MLAs - JMM 29, Congress 17 and RJD 1.

Champai reportedly has the support of 43 MLA of the ruling alliance.

The BJP has 26 members and the AJSU Party three. The NCP and CPI (ML) have one lawmaker each, apart from two Independents.
