The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has submitted a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the extension of the metro rail from Chennai Airport to Kilambakkam bus terminal, incorporating an integrated elevated road, reported TOI.

This development follows directives from the Tamil Nadu government to enhance connectivity by merging metro and road infrastructure.

Under the revised plan, the metro corridor will run at Level 2, while the elevated road will be positioned at Level 1.

Additionally, intermediate ramps near Tambaram will offer connectivity to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), and the elevated road will lead directly into Kilambakkam bus stand, with provisions for future expansion to Chengalpet.

The 15.46-km metro extension will serve key locations, including Pallavaram, Chromepet, Tambaram, Perungalathur, and Vandalur, and will feature 13 elevated stations. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 9,335 crore, covering both metro and road infrastructure.

On Friday (14 February), Chennai Metro Rail Limited Managing Director MA Siddique officially handed over the revised DPR to Additional Chief Secretary (Special Initiatives) K Gopal at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat in Chennai.
