The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is on track to finish the viaduct and double-decker stretch along Arcot Road between Porur and Power House by the end of September, marking a key milestone in the Phase II expansion, reported The Hindu.

This segment forms part of Corridor 4, which spans 26.1 km from Lighthouse to Poonamallee via Porur and Vadapalani.

The Porur–Power House section is particularly significant for commuters as it will link to the Phase I network at Vadapalani and feature a 3.75 km double-decker corridor from Alwarthirunagar to Alapakkam.

This design enables passengers to interchange between Corridor 4 and Corridor 5 (Madhavaram to Sholinganallur) at four points—Alwarthirunagar, Valasaravakkam, Karambakkam, and Alapakkam.

Nearly 95 per cent of the 340 piers needed for this stretch have been built, though officials acknowledged a six-month delay due to complex construction challenges.

Once complete, trains will operate on the first level of the double-decker by next year, with the second level opening when part of Corridor 5 becomes operational.

Remaining viaduct works near Valasaravakkam, Alwarthirunagar, and Vadapalani are expected to conclude within two months.

In completed sections, track laying and overhead equipment (OHE) installation are under way in areas such as Vadapalani, Saligramam, Karambakkam, and Alapakkam, with OHE work expected to take about four months.
