China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh held their first trilateral meeting on Thursday (19 June) in Kunming, the capital of China’s southern Yunnan province.
Senior foreign ministry officials from all three nations attended the dialogue.
This marks China’s second trilateral initiative in India’s neighborhood, following a similar meeting last month with the foreign ministers of China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, reported The Indian Express.
China’s Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, Bangladesh’s Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique, and Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary Imran Ahmed Siddiqui participated in the discussions.
Sun Weidong stated that both Bangladesh and Pakistan are “good neighbours, good friends, and good partners of China,” emphasising their role as key partners for China’s Belt and Road cooperation projects.
According to the statement, Officials exchanged views on strengthening cooperation and agreed to establish a working group to follow up on the discussed ideas and agreements.
Sun Weidong also said that closer cooperation between the three countries “aligns with the common interests of the three peoples” and can contribute to regional peace, stability, development, and prosperity.
The nations expect to hold further meetings to build on this initial dialogue and explore practical steps for future cooperation.
