Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has issued a work order to the Coimbatore Corporation for the land plan survey (LPS), kickstarting groundwork on key corridors, Times of India reported.

The corporation has begun the work of valuing buildings on a 1.4 km stretch along Sathyamangalam Road, from Textool Bridge to Surya Hospital, following the order.

CMRL has sanctioned Rs 2 crore for conducting the Land Plan Survey.

A corporation official cited in the ToI report said that the digital survey and utility mapping on the stretch have already been completed, aided by Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).

The utilities included drainage pipelines, water supply lines, electricity lines, gas pipelines, and telecommunication cables.

After completion of the LPS, the cost of shifting the utilities would be calculated and submitted to the CMRL.

Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran reportedly stated that almost 75 per cent of LPS is completed on Sathyamangalam Road.

The district collector has directed the civic body to wrap up building valuation within two weeks, after which the land acquisition process will begin.

"Additionally, we have planned to set up an office for the metro rail project and we are awaiting approval from the CMRL. This will also be expedited and established at the earliest," he was quoted as saying.

Once the survey phase concludes, a crucial stakeholders’ meeting will be convened with officials from the Highways Department, CMRL, and the Public Works Department to review and proceed further on the metro rail project.
