‘Colonial Era Is Over’: Putin Slams US Pressure Tactics On India, China

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Washington against using economic coercion to weaken countries like India and China, stressing that such moves could undermine global stability, reported The Inidian Express.
Addressing the media after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and World War II anniversary parade in Beijing, Putin said, “The colonial era is now over. They have to understand that they cannot use this tone, speaking with their partners.”
He accused the United States of relying on tariffs and sanctions to challenge major powers.
“Attempting to weaken their leadership, built through difficult histories, is a mistake,” he said.
Highlighting India’s 1.5 billion population and China’s economic strength, Putin emphasised that both nations have strong domestic laws and political systems.
He explained that when these countries face external punishment, their leaders cannot afford to appear weak as it could endanger their political survival.
Despite his criticism, Putin expressed optimism about the future. “Ultimately, things will be sorted out, everything will take its place, and we will see normal political dialogue again,” he noted.
He insisted his tariffs had forced nations, including India, to make concessions.
On Truth Social, Trump described trade with India as a “one-sided disaster,” arguing that the US imports heavily from New Delhi but exports little.
On the SCO sidelines, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Putin for the first time since Washington imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on India over Russian oil purchases.
Putin personally received Modi, offering him a car ride before the two held extensive talks on economic, financial, and energy cooperation.
