Cricket Advisory Committee Shortlists Gambhir And Raman For India’s Head Coach Role, Decision Before Sri Lanka Series

The Indian cricket team will have a new head coach for the limited-overs series in Sri Lanka starting later this month, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has announced on Monday (1 July).

However, he did not disclose who will succeed the outgoing Rahul Dravid however former opener Gautam Gambhir is expected to take over as head coach.

The Cricket Advisory Committee has conducted interviews for the high-profile position and has shortlisted Gambhir and former India women's coach W V Raman.

"Both coach and selector appointment will be made shortly. CAC has interviewed and shortlisted two names and after reaching Mumbai whatever they have decided we will go by that. V V S Laxman is going to Zimbabwe but new coach will join from Sri Lanka series," Shah told select media, referring to the Zimbabwe tour starting on 6 July.

The Indian team is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for three T20Is and three ODIs starting on 27 July.

Shah also expressed his delight after India secured an ICC title after 11 years. He praised Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for their match-winning performances in the final. Both stalwarts announced their retirement from T20Is after the triumph, with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also retiring from the format a day later.
