CRPF Flags Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Unscheduled Movements Without Prior Intimation’ In India And Abroad As Security Risk

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has issued a communication to the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, highlighting repeated breaches of security protocols during his domestic and international travels, The New Indian Express reported.

The letter, which was also marked to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, has sparked a strong response from the party. Congress leaders questioned the timing of the note, suggesting it could be a “veiled attempt” to pressure Gandhi, who recently hinted at making another disclosure on alleged electoral malpractice.

Officials familiar with the matter said this is not the first such caution issued to Gandhi. They added that the lapses go against the protocols laid down in the CRPF’s 'Yellow Book', which guides the Z-plus (ASL) protection accorded to him.

Under this security category, Gandhi is guarded by 10–12 armed commandos providing proximate cover, while advance teams conduct reconnaissance of planned venues. However, officials warned that last-minute itinerary changes or unannounced movements heighten risks to his safety.
