The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday (7 January) announced the Delhi assembly election will be conducted in a single phase on 5 February.

The votes will be counted on 8 February and the election process will be completed by 10 February. The notification will be issued on 10 January with 17 January as the last date of nomination filing.

On 18 January, nominations will be scrutinised, permitting the withdrawal of nomination papers until 20 January.

The announcement was made by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, who assured ample facilities would be available for voters at the polling booths and urged voting in large numbers.

The elections will witness a three-cornered contest between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress.
