Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta’s security has been revamped after an attack on her during a public hearing (‘Jan Sunwai’) at her Civil Lines Camp Office, reported Hindustan Times.
Officials confirmed that the Centre granted her ‘Z’ category CRPF security, with Delhi Police and central forces now deployed outside her residence.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines, outlined in the ‘Yellow Book’, would guide the new measures.
According to police officers cited in the report, the security detail might expand with “more personnel” and enhanced arrangements.
Authorities have introduced stricter protocols for public interactions.
Complainants will not be allowed to directly approach the chief minister during 'Jan Sunwai' sessions.
Every grievance would first undergo verification before reaching her.
The BJP’s Delhi unit acknowledged that a “mishap happened” during the Jan Sunwai.
Initial reports claimed a man slapped Gupta and pulled her hair, but Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva dismissed those accounts as “fabricated.”
However, Delhi minister Kapil Mishra stated that Gupta suffered serious injuries and remained in “shock” though she continued working from her residence.
Police identified the attacker as Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai (41) from Gujarat.
They arrested him on the spot and booked him on charges including attempt to murder.
Officials confirmed that the revised security protocols would take immediate effect and apply to all future Jan Sunwai events at the chief minister’s office.
