Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Elevated Sections Of Corridor May Get Solar Panels, Parking Spaces To Be Created Along Service Roads

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to explore the installation of solar panels on the elevated sections of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway as part of a green initiative aligned with India’s Net Zero target by 2070, Times of India reported.
The proposal was discussed during a high-level meeting on Friday (30 May) chaired by Minister of State for Road Transport and East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra.
The meeting included senior officials from the NHAI, Delhi government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
In a post on X, Harsh Malhotra stated, "Driven by the PM Narendra Modiji's vision of Net Zero emissions by 2070, held a detailed discussion with Dharmendra, chief secretary of Delhi; V Umashankar, secretary, MoRTH; and senior officials from the Delhi govt, MCD, and NHAI on the installation of solar panels along the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway."
Malhotra directed the agencies involved to figure out how available space can be used for implementing the plan.
"There is huge demand for parking space in Gandhi Nagar-Kailash Nagar area, which has a wholesale textile market. The space available on Yamuna side can be utilised for this. It will reduce on-road parking and congestion," the officials were quotes as saying by ToI.
