K Kavitha after she was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. (PTI)
K Kavitha, a prominent leader of the BRS party, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from her residence in Hyderabad last evening (15 March) in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.
Today (16 March), she was presented at the Rose Avenue court in the national capital, where she vehemently denounced her arrest as illegal and pledged to challenge it in court.
Upon her arrival in Delhi late night, Kavitha underwent medical tests at the agency's office before being brought before the court.
The ED sought custody for further interrogation, citing substantial evidence against her.
However, Kavitha's legal counsel argued that her arrest was a clear case of abuse of power.

He said, "Abuse of power and institutional misuse to settle political scores is something that has become increasingly common with BJP Govt in last 10 years."
"ED needs to answer Supreme Court on the inordinate rush to arrest when the matter is very much sub-judice & up for review in a couple of days, on the 19th March. What’s even more appalling is the ED undermining it’s own undertaking given to the Hon’ble Supreme Court," he added.
Meanwhile, Kavitha's supporters staged protests as she was taken into custody from her Banjara Hills residence.
Notably, the Supreme Court had granted Kavitha immunity from interrogation until Wednesday (20 March) and is set to hear her petition against the ED's summons on Tuesday (19 March).
