Delhi commuters may soon experience relief from the daily congestion at Kashmiri Gate Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), as the government explores plans to construct a new flyover linking Nigambodh Ghat to Majnu Ka Tilla, as per a NDTV report.
Officials suggest that the project could transform the heavily trafficked stretch from Rajghat to Majnu Ka Tilla into a smooth, red-light-free corridor.
At present, ISBT sees vehicles converging from five different directions, causing significant traffic snarls during peak hours.
"The idea is to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion at ISBT. The proposed flyover would pass above the existing ISBT structure, cross the Metcalfe Road red light, and descend near Majnu Ka Tilla," a Public Works Department (PWD) official was quoted as saying by NDTV.
The PWD has reportedly been tasked with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the flyover.
Meanwhile, tenders for an older flyover project in the area have been temporarily put on hold.
The proposed elevated structure is expected to drastically cut travel times for thousands of commuters who rely on this busy corridor daily.
By bypassing key traffic signals and providing a direct route over the existing ISBT infrastructure, officials believe the flyover will significantly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
