The entire 82-kilometre Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut rapid rail corridor, branded as Namo Bharat, is set to commence operations later this year, according to Niko Warbanoff, CEO of Deutsche Bahn (DB).

DB is responsible for the operation and maintenance of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).

"We currently operate 55 kms...The entire corridor is expected to start operations by mid-2025," Warbanoff told Economic Times.

The Delhi-Meerut corridor, being developed at a cost of Rs 30,274 crore, is expected to boost regional connectivity.

Warbanoff highlighted its significance, stating, "Regional rapid rail and metro projects in India are a significant opportunity for the country. The Delhi-Meerut corridor will act as a model for future RRTS projects in the sub-continent."

He emphasised the potential for collaboration with Indian Railways, saying, "I believe we can collaborate in different fields of infrastructure maintenance and digitalisation with the Indian Railways."

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 13-kilometre stretch of the RRTS corridor between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, constructed at a cost of Rs 4,600 crore.

Once fully operational, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut rapid rail corridor is expected to set a benchmark for future RRTS initiatives, promoting efficient, sustainable, and high-speed regional connectivity.
