Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS: Trial Runs To Begin Soon As Sarai Kale Khan–New Ashok Nagar Section Electrified

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System project has inched closer to full commissioning with a key development on the Delhi stretch of the corridor.

In a statement, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation, the implementing agency for the project, has announced that the section between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan on the corridor has now been successfully electrified.

"NCRTC has achieved another significant milestone in the journey of operationalising the complete Delhi section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor," the statement said.

"The Over Head Equipment (OHE) between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan stations has now been successfully charged at 25 kV. This means the section has been electrified and is ready for train operations," it said.

The NCRTC further said that trial runs in this segment are set to begin soon.

The corridor is mostly elevated (approximately 70km), with around 12km running underground.

Currently, around 55km of the corridor is operational.

Delhi’s third RRTS station, Sarai Kale Khan, is expected to be operational by June 2025.

Since the commencement of operations on 21 October 2023, the Namo Bharat trains have transported around 66 lakh commuters.
