The Delhi government is set to deploy 76 electric buses from the Ghazipur depot, transport department officials have confirmed.
These buses, branded under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchanges (DEVI) initiative, are expected to bridge critical gaps between metro stations, key bus routes, and inner neighbourhoods, PTI reported.
Initially, buses will ply on shorter routes, each covering around 12 km, making them ideal for areas where traditional buses face operational challenges.
The deployment includes eight buses between Anand Vihar ISBT Terminal and Keshav Nagar Mukti Ashram, six on the Seemapuri–Old Delhi Railway Station route, and ten connecting Mayur Vihar Phase III Paper Market with Mori Gate Terminal.
Another eight buses will run between Anand Vihar and Swaroop Nagar, with six on the Anand Vihar–Humdard Nagar and Sangam Vihar corridor. Fourteen buses will cover the Anand Vihar–Kapashera Border route.
“Tomorrow, Delhi will receive a special gift from the government. It is launching electric buses which have been named ‘DEVI’. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav will also be present on the occasion,” said Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
The service, initially launched as the Mohalla Bus Service by the previous AAP government, has been rebranded and expanded by the BJP-led administration with upgraded infrastructure and operational frameworks aimed at improving commuter convenience.
Officials stated that most routes have already been finalised, and more will be added based on demand after reviewing the initial response.
“The idea is to cover shorter routes that connect interior streets with arterial roads, so these buses can operate in areas where larger buses cannot,” a transport official added.
