Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the additional 13-kilometre Delhi section of the Rapid Regional Transit System (RRTS) between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar today (5 January).
As per an official press release, the inauguration ceremony is scheduled for 11 am, with PM Modi expected to travel between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar.
Passenger services on this newly inaugurated stretch will begin at 5 pm on Sunday, with trains operating at 15-minute intervals.
Fares for the route from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South have been set at Rs 150 for standard coach passengers and Rs 225 for those opting for the premium coach.
The 13-kilometre section includes a six-kilometre underground stretch, featuring the key station at Anand Vihar. This development marks the debut of Namo Bharat trains on an underground route.
This expansion brings Namo Bharat trains into Delhi for the first time.
Currently, the operational segment of the corridor spanned 42 kilometres between Sahibabad and Meerut South, covering nine stations.
The newly opened section extends the operational length to 55 kilometres, adding two more stations for a total of 11.
The addition of this section directly connects Meerut city to Delhi, significantly cutting travel time.
Commuters can now travel from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South in under 40 minutes, a reduction of one-third in journey duration.
