Delhi–Mussoorie Travel Time To Reduce With Rs 6,100 Crore Elevated Road; Dehradun Traffic Congestion Expected To Ease

Mussoorie is set to become far more accessible from Delhi and across India, with the construction of a 26 km elevated road on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.

The ambitious Rs 6,100 crore project aims to significantly cut travel time and ease urban congestion in Dehradun city, The New Indian Express reported.

Vice-Chairman of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), Banshidhar Tiwari, confirmed, "Land acquisition will be carried out in 26 localities to build the 26 km long elevated road in Dehradun. Land will be acquired by demolishing 2,614 houses built along the banks of the Rispana and Bindal rivers."

Officials involved in the project estimate that once operational, the road will allow tourists to reach Mussoorie from Delhi in just four hours by car. Besides boosting tourism, it is also expected to offer significant relief to residents affected by the heavy flow of traffic through Dehradun.

However, the district administration believes only monetary compensation is likely, given that land proposed by the MDDA and Nagar Nigam as a land bank has not yet been inspected, and there is no indication of a new land bank being considered.

Preparations for the acquisition have begun, with houses marked for demolition now identified with red signs. A social impact assessment survey is expected to conclude within 15 days. The administration is proceeding accordingly, in anticipation of monetary settlements.
