The Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) has achieved a significant milestone in January 2025, marking a new benchmark in India’s freight transportation efficiency, according to the Ministry of Railways.

During the first month of the year, an average of 391 freight trains operated daily on DFC tracks.

The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) saw an average of 209 trains per day, while the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) ran 182 trains per day, reported PTI.

The Ministry highlighted that this achievement underscores the growing reliance on the DFC for efficient freight movement, reinforcing its importance as a key driver of industrial and economic growth.

By January 2025, a record 175 rakes were handled, demonstrating the increasing efficiency of the DFC in meeting industrial demands.

The DFC also played a pivotal role in facilitating the smooth movement of trains during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, the world's largest religious gathering.

The Ministry acknowledged that by diverting 100 per cent of the freight traffic from East Central Railway and North Central Railway to EDFC, the corridor alleviated congestion on key routes, enabling the smooth operation of special trains for pilgrim.
