DMRC Revives Dwarka–Gurgaon Metro Extension Plan After Years In Cold Storage—Here's What Has Happened So Far

Nearly ten years after it was first proposed, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is once again revisiting the long-pending plan to extend metro connectivity between Dwarka and Gurgaon, according to a Times of India report.

The new proposal aims to link Yashobhoomi station in Dwarka Sector 25 on the Airport Express Line with IFFCO Chowk on the Delhi–Jaipur Expressway.

If approved, the extension would provide direct metro access from Dwarka to Gurgaon’s key employment hubs, including Udyog Vihar, Cyber City, Hero Honda Chowk, Subhash Chowk, and the IT and industrial clusters around Sector 44.

It would also serve the city’s growing number of air passengers, who currently lack reliable public transport options for timely airport access.

According to an official quoted as saying at the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC), “The proposal is under discussion at the government level. A decision is yet to be taken.”

An interchange is also proposed at Sector 23 station, which is part of Gurugram Metro Rail Limited’s (GMRL) approved corridor between Millennium City Centre and Cyber City.

The final project cost, station count and ridership estimates will only be known once the detailed project report (DPR) is prepared.

A similar extension was considered in 2009, with DPRs submitted in 2011 and 2015, but shelved due to concerns over financial viability.
