Despite Mamata Banerjee expressing readiness to meet doctors protesting the rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the agitators did not meet the West Bengal Chief Minister citing unfulfilled conditions.

Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, in a mail, suggested that the delegation of doctors include 12-15 representatives to have a meeting with senior officials. However, the doctors demanded to allow a delegation of 30 members.

"We refused it because we were against the closed-door meeting. Like (Health Minister) Chandrima Bhattacharya said the CM was waiting for us, nothing of this sort was mentioned in the mail," a protesting doctor said.

The other demands include holding elections, recognition of college counsel and Resident Doctors' Association, which will have elected representatives, not selected representatives.

After this, junior doctors continued their protest at Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata's Salt Lake area. Another protesting doctor said that they are waiting for an open discussion with the state government.

"We have demanded that the discussion be live telecasted to maintain transparency. We don't think there should be any issue with it. Inviting 10 doctors to discuss is insulting for us," Dr Arnab Mukhopadhya said.
