The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata's R G Kar Medical College and Hospital after the Calcutta High Court's directive.

After registering a First Information Report (FIR), a CBI team comprising specialised medical and forensic experts from Delhi arrived in Kolkata and then reached the CGO Complex.

The West Bengal Police brought the accused Sanjoy Roy here and handed him to the CBI. The central investigative agency then took the accused to the crime scene for further probe.

All evidence and documents related to the case were also handed to the CBI. The central agency has formed three groups of officers to investigate the matter, as per the Hindustan Times.

It will also interrogate the four colleagues who had dinner with the victim before the horrific crime. The delivery boy, who brought the food, will also be questioned, the Times Now reported.

The major concern of the CBI is why the police were informed about the incident at 10 am when the dead body of the trainee doctor was found at 7:30 am in the seminar hall.

It will also explore whether there were more people involved in the crime. The suspicion of evidence tampering has also emerged due to ongoing renovation work near the crime scene.
