DPRs For RRTS Corridors From Delhi To Karnal And Shahjahanpur Ready, To Be Operationalised In Two–Three Years: Khattar

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday (3 May) announced that the detailed project reports (DPRs) for two new Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors — Delhi to Karnal in Haryana and Delhi to Shahjahanpur in Rajasthan are complete.
He stated that these corridors would become operational within the next two to three years, PTI reported.
Khattar was speaking at the 31st foundation day of Delhi Metro, where he highlighted the critical role that mass transit plays in an increasingly urbanised India. Metro systems have become a lifeline for city dwellers and will prove crucial as urbanisation grows, he said.
Referring to the ongoing Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, the minister said that the section between New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and Meerut South in Uttar Pradesh is already operational.
He revealed that DPRs for the Sarai Kale Khan–Karnal and Sarai Kale Khan–Shahjahanpur corridors are ready and that four additional RRTS routes are currently in the planning phase. These projects are being designed with seamless integration to Delhi Metro through interchange stations.
Emphasising the essential nature of mobility, Khattar said, easy, safe and reliable mobility is a fundamental right of the people. He also proposed including cargo compartments in Metro trains to facilitate small traders and hawkers.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who was also present at the event, praised Delhi Metro’s societal impact. “There is a clear ‘feel-good’ factor among the passengers,” she said, recalling her own youthful experiences on the network.
