At least eight security forces personnel and a driver was killed after Maoists blew up a vehicle in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Monday (6 January).
The IED blast triggered by Maoists targeted a police vehicle in Bijapur district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh.
A total of nine security personnel were in the Scorpio SUV when the attack took place, NDTV reported.
Eight Dantewada District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans and one driver was killed in the attack, news agency ANI reported.
The attack occurred in the Kutru region, approximately 80 kilometers from the district headquarters, around 2.30 PM on the Kutru-Bedre route.
"Nine people - eight Dantewada DRG jawans and one driver, lost their lives after their vehicle was blown up by naxals through an IED blast, in Bijapur. They were returning after a joint operation of Dantewada, Narayanpur and Bijapur," IG Bastar was quoted as saying by ANI.
Earlier today, security forces eliminated five Maoists in the Abujhmad region of Chhattisgarh in an encounter.
Automatic weapons such as AK 47 and Self-Loading Rifles were recovered from the encounter site.
