In a major counter-insurgency breakthrough, Security forces have reclaimed the Koragutta Hills in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, once considered a key Maoist stronghold, after a nine-day operation.
According to a report by The Times of India, the operation resulted in the clearing of Maoist presence from the hilltop, which lies along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.
As per government sources cited in ToI report, elite security forces units, including the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and CRPF’s CoBRA battalion, mounted a coordinated offensive that led to the strategic encirclement of the area.
Commandos successfully hoisted the Indian flag atop the 5,000-feet-high hill, marking a symbolic victory.
The operation aligns with Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s declared goal to eliminate Naxalism nationwide by 31 March 2026.
A massive anti-Maoist operation, described as the largest of its kind in recent years, has been underway since late April 2025 along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, particularly focused on the Karregutta and Durgamgutta hill ranges in Bijapur district (Chhattisgarh) and Mulugu district (Telangana), The Indian Express reported.
According to an officer, as mentioned by The Indian Express, this is the largest operation that the security forces have conducted in or around Chhattisgarh this year, and there are around 7,000 security personnel working on the operation.
Fierce encounters have taken place over the past week, resulting in the deaths of at least three Maoists, with several others believed to be injured or killed.
Large caches of weapons, explosives, and over 100 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have been recovered as forces reclaim strategic locations such as the Koragutta and Dhobey hills.
While security forces have made substantial territorial gains, some Maoist leaders are believed to have escaped, and search operations continue in the dense forest terrain.
