The head of Bangladesh's interim government Muhammad Yunus visited the Dhakeshwari temple on Tuesday (13 August) and assured Hindus of their right while emphasising on rule of law.

However, even after that, Hindus were attacked in the Rangpur division's Thakurgaon district later in the night. Kaleshwar Burman's house in Mandirpara village was set on fire by extremists.

The neighbours helped in controlling the fire and getting everyone out of the house safely. The house, however, was completely destroyed. No culprits have been caught so far in the case.

Earlier, it was alleged that Hindus related to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League are being attacked but Burman does not have any political connection, still, he was attacked.

According to Business Today, Hindus have faced attacks and threats in 278 locations across 48 districts of Bangladesh since Hasina left the country and came to India for temporary asylum.

Earlier, Yunus had called out 'heinous' crimes against Hindus and said, "Are they not the people of this country? You (students) have been able to save this country; can't you save some families?"

"Please help us to establish that, have patience, and judge later whether we could do that or not. If we can not do that, then blame us. That is the main thing," he was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune.
