As China escalates tensions with India along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Indian citizens have risen to protest against the communist nation.

Protests and calls to boycott Chinese goods erupted across India after 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in Ladakh's Galwan valley late Monday night in an act of premeditated Chinese aggression.

The violent face-off in Galwan valley has turned out to be the biggest military confrontation between the two countries in over four decades. It was last in 1975 when four Assam Rifles personnel were killed on the Indian side of the border in Arunachal Pradesh.

Various sources have claimed that despite being vastly outnumbered against the Chinese, the Indian Army inflicted upwards of 40 casualties, while losing 20 of its own men.

India has called the ongoing clashes as "an attempt by the Chinese side to unilaterally change the status quo there".

Indian foreign minister S Jaishankar said that China attempted to erect a structure inside the Indian territory, while China's Wang Yi said Indian troops attacked first.

This violent aggression by China has resulted in many Indian citizens taking to the streets to demonstrate against China and Chinese made products.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, Gorakhpur-Basti zone; Patna in Bihar; Bengaluru in Karnataka; Jharkhand’s Ranchi; and Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat in Gujarat photos of Xi Jinping and the Chinese flag were burned.

In New Delhi, Defence Colony RWA’s president Major Ranjit Singh (retired) criticised the "brutal murder" of Indian soldiers and demanded that people boycott China-made goods.

Swadeshi Jagran Manch also staged a protest in the national capital. Reportedly, 22 protesters from the outfit who had assembled close to the Chinese Embassy at Chankyapuri in south Delhi were detained by the Delhi police.

In a widely circulated video, he is heard saying, “You must have all got to know what happened. By treachery, unarmed officers and soldiers of the Indian Army were brutally murdered by the Chinese. This was total betrayal... nothing but murder."

"Today, as your president, I declare Defence Colony is at war. Unfortunately we cannot take up guns and bullets but definitely there are other means. We can break China's backbone economically and today I request you all, with immediate effect, shun Chinese goods and if you have any lying in your house, please throw them out,"

In Surat, people protested against Chinese aggression by breaking a television set made in China. "We hereby boycott all Chinese products. It is time we teach China a lesson," they were quoted as saying by PTI.

In Mumbai, people led by BJP MLA Ram Kadam burnt China-made products. Nagpur also saw similar protests.

Protests broke out in Jammu region and people burnt tyres and blockaded the roads for 30 minutes. Afterwards, they were peacefully dispersed.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also called for boycott of Chinese goods.

"In the first phase, CAIT has selected more than 500 broad categories of items which include more than 3,000 items which are made indigenously in India also, but succumbing to the temptation of cheap items, these were being imported from China until now," the CAIT said in a statement.
