News Brief
Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA Chairman Eknath Shinde, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik and senior officials were present at the event
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday (22 September) announced that all phases of Metro Routes 4 and 4A will be operational for passengers by October 2026, positioning the 58 km corridor as the largest metro network in the country.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the technical inspection and trial run of the priority stretch of Metro 4 (Wadala–Kasarvadavali) and Metro 4A (Kasarvadavali–Gaymukh).
Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA chairman Eknath Shinde, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik and senior officials were present alongside citizens who gathered to witness the milestone.
Fadnavis highlighted that the 35 km Ghatkopar–Mulund–Gaymukh alignment, comprising 32 stations, has been designed at a cost of around Rs 16,000 crore. Depots for Metro 4, 4A, 10 and 11 will be constructed on 45 hectares of land at Bhogarpada.
The corridor, he added, will connect the eastern and western suburbs with Mumbai city and Thane, and later integrate with Metro 11 linking Wadala to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde described the elevated corridor as the first project of its kind in India and stressed its role in resolving Thane’s chronic congestion.
The completed priority section has seen its viaduct, tracks and overhead equipment finalised, with trial runs testing load capacity, safety systems and train operations.
The BEML six-coach trainsets, already in service on Metro 2A and 7, will also run here with advanced safety and energy-efficient regenerative braking.
