Fadnavis Seeks More NDRF Aid From Centre For Flood-Hit Farmers In Maharashtra

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday (25 September) wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting additional aid from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) for flood-hit farmers in the state, reported The Indian Express.
The letter, signed by Fadnavis along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, was submitted to Shah during his visit to Mumbai.
The letter stated that incessant rainfall damaged about 50 lakh hectares of farmland in Maharashtra.
So far, the state government has released Rs 2,215 crore from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) to provide relief.
The letter stressed the need for more funds to support farmers and rehabilitation efforts.
It explained that SDRF resources were insufficient given the disaster’s scale and the risk of food grain shortages in the future.
“Therefore we humbly request to release the money from the NDRF at the earliest,” the letter said.
It further mentioned that the Maharashtra government would soon send a detailed proposal to the central government for the fund release.
