Fatehpur Temple Dispute (Image source: X)
A dispute over whether a structure in Fatehpur’s Abunagar Rediya locality is a temple or a tomb escalated into vandalism on Monday (11 August), prompting the district administration to take urgent action, the Jagran reported.
By midnight, the damaged portions were repaired under police supervision, and the site has since been turned into a security zone with no public access allowed.
Officials have appealed for calm from both sides, warning of strict action against those disturbing the peace. Superintendent of Police (SP) Anup Singh and Additional SP personally oversaw the delivery of construction materials and the completion of repairs.
Ten named individuals and 150 unidentified people have been booked in connection with the incident.
A video circulating on social media shows a heated exchange between Pal and the SP, in which Pal is heard making strong remarks such as “this is not Mulayam Singh’s government.”
Congress leaders staged a protest at the district collectorate, accusing the BJP of destroying communal harmony. They submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India, demanding a probe and strict punishment for those involved.
The disputed site remains under tight security, with police deployed in large numbers to prevent further tensions.
