'Feeling Helpless': After RG Kar Hunger Strike Ends, Parents Of Rape-Murder Victim Write To Amit Shah, Seek Appointment

After the junior doctors called off the hunger strike against the rape and murder of their colleague at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the parents of the victim have written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The parents want to meet Shah 'to discuss a few things regarding the situation and pray for your guidance and help' and expressed his 'experience and guidance would be invaluable.'

In the email, they say, "After that heinous unforeseen incident happened to our daughter, we have been going through tremendous mental pressure and feeling helpless now."

In earlier statements to the media, the parents alleged misconduct in the investigation by West Bengal police and that they were told by the college administration their daughter committed suicide.

A junior doctor said that they got the assurance of some directives after meeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, but the body language of the state government was not positive.

“We are, withdrawing our ‘fast-unto-death’ and also Tuesday's total shutdown in the health sector, but this is not a result of today's meeting but because the request came from the common people," he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Tapas Pramanik, who has been CC’ed in the mail sent by the victim's father expressed displeasure over the progress of the investigation and highlighted many questions remain unanswered.

"There is also the need for fast-tracking court proceedings to bring the culprits to justice. The parents are traumatised and there is nothing wrong in meeting the Union Home Minister," he told Indian Express.
