First-Ever Female Officer Deployed At The World’s Highest Battlefield

In a breakthrough moment, Captain Shiva Chauhan became the first ever woman officer of the Indian Army to get operationally deployed at Siachen, the world’s highest and coldest battlefield, reports PTI.

Capt Shiva Chauhan got inducted into the Corps of Engineers in May 2021. She will be leading a team of sappers for a period of three months at the Kumar post at a height of 15,632 feet.

She got inducted on 2 January 2023, after a month-long training session at the Siachen Battle School. The training included endurance training, ice wall climbing, avalanche and crevasse rescue and survival, the army said.


Capt Shiva, originally from Rajasthan completed her training at Officers Training Academy (OTA) Gaya.

She showed her determination when she lead a 508 km long “Sura Soi” sapper’s cycling expedition from the Siachen War memorial to the Kargil War memorial, reported the Times of India.
