Vande Bharat train.
The much-awaited Vande Bharat train connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) station in Jammu and Srinagar in Kashmir is likely to be flagged off this month.
According to a News18 report, the Vande Bharat train from Katra to Kashmir will run from 17 February 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reportedly inaugurate the Sangaldan-Riyasi track from Katra.
Following the inauguration, the Vande Bharat service will operate directly between Katra and Srinagar.
The Indian Railways recently conducted a successful trial run on the Katra-Banihal rail corridor.
With this development, the Vande Bharat train will become the first semi-high-speed service in the Kashmir Valley and the third such train in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The introduction of this service will enable passengers to travel seamlessly from New Delhi to Srinagar by rail.
The Vande Bharat train operating under the Northern Railway (NR) zone will reportedly feature an orange and brown colour scheme.
Indian Railways has also unveiled the schedules of three trains, including the Vande Bharat service.
The ticket pricing for the journey is yet to be finalised.
The Vande Bharat train has been specially designed to withstand extreme cold weather conditions.
It is equipped with advanced anti-freezing systems to ensure smooth operation in harsh winter climates.
Unlike other Vande Bharat trains, this model is engineered to function efficiently even in temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees celsius.
The train features advanced heating mechanisms to maintain passenger comfort during travel.
The driver’s cabin is equipped with a heated windshield, preventing fogging or freezing for clear visibility.
To prevent freezing, the train’s plumbing and bio-toilets are fitted with heating elements, keeping essential systems working even in harsh winter conditions.
