News Brief
Kailash Gahlot
Former Home Minister of Delhi, Kailash Gahlot is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a day after resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over issues like 'Sheeshmahal', Yamuna pollution and fights with centre.
On Monday (18 November) noon, Gahlot reached the BJP headquarters in Delhi along with Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva to join the party ahead of Delhi assembly elections due in early next year.
In his resignation letter to AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, Gahlot said AAP has been "fighting for own political agenda" and this has "severely crippled our ability to even deliver basic services to the people of Delhi".
When Kejriwal was asked about Gahlot joining the BJP, the former Delhi Chief Minister said, "He (Gahlot) is free, he can go wherever he wants."
However, yesterday, the AAP had said that Gahlot was being pressurised for the last few months by the raids of Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax Department and hence, left the party.
