Satyapal Malik, former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, passed away on Tuesday (5 August) at the age of 79, Hindustan Times reported.
He died at 1:10 PM at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after a prolonged illness, confirmed his personal secretary, KS Rana.
The Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, confirming the death of Malik, stated that he had a long-standing history of multiple chronic health conditions, including diabetic kidney disease, hypertension, morbid obesity, and obstructive sleep apnea.
On 8 June, Malik had shared a grim health update on social media, calling his condition “serious.” A day earlier, he had revealed that he had been hospitalised for nearly a month and was receiving treatment for kidney problems.
Known for his long political career and outspoken views, Malik served as the Governor of several states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Bihar, Odisha and Meghalaya.
