Four Killed, Six Injured After Falling From Overcrowded Train In Maharashtra’s Thane District

A tragic railway mishap unfolded in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Monday (9 June) morning, claiming the lives of at least four passengers and injuring six others, after they reportedly fell off a moving local train near Diva and Kopar stations.
The accident occurred around 9.30 am on a Kasara-bound train during peak commuting hours, when overcrowding forced several passengers to stand at the doors, according to a PTI report.
According to a railway official, while the train was in motion, at least 10 passengers fell down, in what appears to be a case of extreme congestion and possible misbalance.
The alert was raised by a guard on another train travelling along the same route, who noticed injured individuals lying beside the tracks and immediately notified the control room.
The victims were rushed to a civic hospital in Kalwa, where four men, aged between 30 and 35 were declared dead on arrival.
He added that investigations are ongoing to determine from which specific train the victims fell.
The incident has sparked calls for accountability and heightened safety measures. Shiv Sena MP from Thane, Naresh Mhaske, questioned, “How did they fall…was there a crowd, were they pushed, was there a fight?”
Ambadas Danve, Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, termed the incident heartbreaking and serious, and urged a thorough inquiry into the circumstances that led to the accident.
Authorities are yet to officially comment on the nature of crowd control during the morning rush.
