In an ongoing effort to ensure that only Hindus are engaged in religious capacities, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages Andhra Pradesh's Sri Venkateswara temple, has suspended four employees accused of practicing non-Hindu religions, reported The Indian Express.

Action Against Violation of Religious Code

The TTD suspended B Elizar (Deputy Executive Engineer, Quality Control), S Rosi (Staff Nurse, BIRRD Hospital), M Premavati (Grade-1 Pharmacist, BIRRD Hospital), and Dr G Asuntha (SV Ayurveda Pharmacy) for violating the institution’s code of conduct.

According to a TTD statement, they acted irresponsibly in their duties while representing and working for a Hindu religious organisation. Following the Vigilance Department's report and supporting evidence, the board took departmental action under applicable regulations and immediately suspended them.

Wider Religious Purge Underway

TTD sources confirmed, “The board has taken a decision not to allow any non-Hindu to work in the TTD, especially in the temples governed and managed by it.”

Since the Telugu Desam Party-led NDA government took power in June last year, TTD has transferred a number of non-Hindu personnel. In February, 18 employees, including teachers, officers, and healthcare staff, were transferred for allegedly participating in non-Hindu activities.

On 18 November, the TTD board had its first meeting under new chairman B R Naidu, and decided to transfer all non-Hindu employees and prohibit political statements on temple grounds.
