After being accused of rejecting married women for jobs, Foxconn has said that it wants women employees in India to be in lead positions in the company's design and other technology-related verticals.

Foxconn chairman Young Liu said that he not only wants women in the assembly work, but also in higher positions of design and technology-related segments, PTI reported

The contract manufacturer of iPhones has 48,000 employees across India. One-fourth of the new hires are married women and the factory has around 70 per cent women.

Earlier this month, the Tamil Nadu government launched a housing initiative for 18,720 women employed by Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn, a major supplier to iPhone maker Apple.

The company is on a hiring spree and is recruiting individuals regardless of their gender, Liu said. Foxconn is also set to establish a large-scale manufacturing plant near Doddaballapura in Karnataka.

The iPhone maker is deploying a '3+3 strategy' to expand business in three priority areas of electric vehicles, digital health and robotics industries.
