Foxconn, Apple’s leading contract manufacturer, is reportedly set to double iPhone production in India by 2025, aiming to assemble between 25 million and 30 million units annually, Economic Times reported.

This marks a significant increase from the 12 million devices produced in 2024, as Apple accelerates its efforts to diversify its supply chain beyond China.

Foxconn’s Bengaluru facility has already made significant progress, with trial runs conducted over the past few months to ensure compliance with Apple's stringent quality standards.

Citing insights from Lori Chang, a senior analyst at Taipei-based Isaiah Research, the ET report stated that Foxconn's main focus will continue to be iPhone production, with expectations that the share made in India will increase from 12-16 per cent in 2024 to 21-25 per cent in 2025.

India is rapidly emerging as a key global hub for iPhone production.

A pivotal move in this direction is Tata Group’s acquisition of a 60 per cent stake in Pegatron Technology India, which operates an iPhone assembly plant near Chennai.

The Indian government is actively supporting this expansion by eliminating import duties on key smartphone components.

In March 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the removal of duties on 28 essential items used in mobile phone production to strengthen India’s manufacturing capabilities and improve export competitiveness.
