Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday (14 September) claimed that a political leader had offered to back him in a bid for the Prime Minister's position.

Gadkari added that he declined the offer as he never harboured such ambitions.

However, he declined, asserting that he never harboured such ambitions.

"I remember one incident -- I would not name anyone -- that person said if you are going to become prime minister, we will support you," Gadkari said at a journalism awards function in Nagpur, without indicating when the conversation took place.

During his address, Gadkari emphasised the significance of maintaining ethical standards in both journalism and politics.

He asserted that democracy can only thrive when all four pillars — the judiciary, executive, legislature, and media — follow ethics.
