Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (20 September) laid the foundation stone for two major National Highway projects in Gujarat.

The projects include the 38.3 km four-laning of the Jabugam–Dhamasiya stretch of NH-56 in Chhotaudepur district and the 29.1 km four-laning of the Bitada/Movi–Nasarpore section of NH-56 in Bharuch, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari informed in a post on X.

Together, they are expected to play a pivotal role in linking Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, and Tapi districts.

The improved highway infrastructure would not only ease passenger and freight movement but also strengthen access to some of Gujarat’s most significant tourist and cultural attractions.

The enhanced corridors will provide smoother connectivity to the Statue of Unity, the Sardar Sarovar Dam, and a cluster of renowned eco-tourism destinations including Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary, Ratanmahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary, Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary and Purna Wildlife Sanctuary.

Gadkari noted that the highways would act as a catalyst for balanced growth, particularly in tribal-dominated districts of South Gujarat, where improved road links are critical to economic inclusion.

This is part of a massive infrastructure push in Gujarat with development projects worth over Rs 34,200 crore spanning transport, maritime, energy, healthcare, and urban facilities.
