In a significant move to enhance urban public services, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved Rs 710 crore under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Saheri Vikas Yojana (SYMSVY).
These funds are earmarked for the development of infrastructure and the strengthening of administrative capacities across various municipal corporations and newly formed urban entities in the state, ANI reported.
Rs 208 crore will be directed towards six municipal corporations—Anand, Nadiad, Morbi, Vapi, Navsari, and Gandhidham.
The allocation will assist these corporations in boosting their administrative capacities and procuring essential tools and equipment to efficiently implement citizen welfare projects.
The funding will also support infrastructure development to improve public services, including waste management and urban beautification.
The approval includes Rs 710 crore for not only the six new municipal corporations but also for established ones like Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, and others.
Notably, Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for “city beautification” and sanitation activities in Anand Municipal Corporation.
An additional Rs 20 crore will be allocated for enhancing Anand’s administrative capabilities through IT infrastructure development.
A further Rs 25 crore will fund the construction of a new Town Hall in Anand, aimed at creating a unique identity for the city.
The funds for Morbi include Rs 12.20 crore for city beautification and sanitation, which will support divider construction, road maintenance, garbage collection, and garden upkeep.
Another Rs 55.80 crore is approved for the conversion of the Machhu-2 Irrigation Scheme’s open canal into a concrete conduit, a project aimed at improving water management and preventing flooding.
Similarly, Rs 10 crore each has been allocated for administrative improvements in Vapi, Navsari, and Gandhidham, covering IT infrastructure and facilities for enhanced service delivery.
In Nadiad, Rs 10 crore is designated for city beautification and administrative development, alongside Rs 1.89 crore for constructing a modern city bus stand.
