Thrissur’s iconic Guruvayur Shri Krishna Temple has moved to perform extensive purification rites today after a social media video stirred controversy.

The issue arose when Jasmin Jaffer, a former Bigg Boss contestant and digital influencer, posted a short reel of herself washing her feet in the temple’s sacred pond.

The Guruvayur Devaswom swiftly declared the pond impure, stating that the act violated long-standing religious traditions. Consequently, darshan has been curtailed between 5 am and noon.

According to the administration, the rites will involve a complete repetition of six days of temple pujas, including 18 pujas and 18 sheevelis. Devotees have been asked to extend their cooperation during the temporary restrictions.

Police have since informed the court that a case will be registered in line with judicial orders.

The influencer had uploaded the video six days earlier but has since deleted it. She has also issued an apology, stating that she was unaware of the prohibitions.
