After the Supreme Court refused to interfere in the Varanasi district court order allowing Hindu pujas at a cellar in the basement of the Gyanvapi complex, Anjuman Intezamia Mosque Committee approached Allahabad High Court.
Fuzail Ahmad Ayyubi, Advocate on Record for the mosque committee, moved an urgent application on Thursday (1 February) morning before the Supreme Court. However, the apex court asked it to approach the High Court.
Ayyubi's “letter of extreme urgency” to the Supreme Court registrar highlighted "hot haste" for puja in the basement of the mosque and said as per The Indian Express, "This action is against the letter and spirit of the orders."
It alleged that the administration is in collusion with the plaintiffs and is trying to foreclose any attempt by the mosque managing committee to avail of their remedies against the said order by presenting them with a fait accompli.
The mosque committee is seeking intervention to ensure that namaz and other religious observations at the mosque are not disturbed.
