The Congress party has declared 88 candidates for the Haryana assembly elections for 90 seats as it is yet to announce names for Sohna and Bhiwani even on the last day of nomination filing.
The latest list released on Thursday (12 September) declared two candidates for Uklana and Narnaud. Both seats were won by Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in the 2019 assembly elections.
Congress's third list was released at midnight with 40 names. Interestingly, several leaders who lost in the 2019 elections have been given an opportunity again.
Chander Mohan is fielded in Panchkula, Akram Khan in Jagadhri, Mandeep Singh Chattha in Pehowa, Jarnail Singh in Ratia, Ram Niwas Rara in Hisar and M L Ranga Bawal.
Moreover, independents like Nirmal Singh, Rakesh Kamboj and Gokul Setia, who were runner-ups in 2019, have been fielded by Congress in Ambala City, Indri and Sirsa respectively.
Leaders like Mahabir Gupta and Rahul Makkar, who contested on the JJP tickets in 2019 but lost, have been fielded in Jind and Hansi.
Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala's son Aditya has been fielded from Kaithal. Notably, Surjewala won this seat in 2009 and 2014 but lost in 2019.
Ambala MP Varun Chaudhary's wife Pooja has been fielded from Mulana as Varun went to the Lok Sabha vacating this seat.
