News Brief
Haryana Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister Anil Vij
Haryana’s public transport system is set for a major overhaul, with plans to modernise bus services, renovate terminals, and introduce stringent road safety measures, according to a report by Times of India.
As part of this initiative, Haryana Roadways will gradually phase out its ageing fleet, including buses recalled from the National Capital Region, replacing them with modern, safer, and more comfortable vehicles.
Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister Anil Vij, after a pre-budget meeting, announced these developments, stating that the overhaul aims to provide safer, more efficient, and modernised transport facilities for residents.
He further stressed that well-trained drivers would contribute to reducing road accidents and improving overall traffic discipline in the state.
One of the major concerns has been the poor state of bus terminals, particularly in key urban centres.
Highlighting the condition of Gurugram’s terminal, Vij remarked that the bus terminal of the "Millennium City" lacks basic infrastructure, resembling an open ground with only a few sheds.
To address this, the government will modernise bus terminals across the state, equipping them with proper seating arrangements, digital information boards, and improved sanitation.
In a bid to enhance road safety and skill development, the government will establish a driving school in every district.
To further improve vehicle maintenance and roadworthiness, Haryana will install automated washing systems and fitness-check facilities in every district.
These systems will help maintain hygiene and mechanical efficiency in public transport vehicles, reducing breakdowns and ensuring safer journeys.
Additionally, the fitness-check facilities will play a crucial role in phasing out unfit vehicles, thereby strengthening road safety.
Beyond transport, the minister also announced significant developments in the power sector.
A new 800 MW power plant will be established in Yamunanagar to ensure a stable electricity supply.
Furthermore, outdated power lines and transformers across Haryana will be replaced to reduce frequent power outages and improve efficiency.
Vij assured that these measures would not only enhance daily commuting but also strengthen Haryana’s overall infrastructure.
