Haryana Unveils Comprehensive Action Plan To Tackle Gurugram’s Civic Woes; Model May Be Replicated Across State

Residents of Gurugram, long troubled by crumbling civic infrastructure, could see relief soon with the Haryana government finalising an action plan to address the city’s persistent problems.
If implemented successfully, the framework may later be adopted as a “Model of Governance” for other cities across the state, according to The Tribune report.
Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar announced that the initiative was designed to tackle a wide range of urban issues, from sanitation, drainage, and roads to open garbage burning, stray animals, and the management of tree cutting and disposal.
Joint efforts would be made to address issues, he said, noting that the blueprint had been drawn up after extensive consultations with citizen groups, resident welfare associations, and social organisations.
A drainage proposal prepared by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) envisages connecting major stormwater drains to the Najafgarh drain to reduce flooding.
At the same time, sewage treatment capacity will be expanded from the current 408 MLD to 950 MLD by 2028, through upgrades and new plants at Bajghera, Dhanwapur, Behrampur, and Sectors 78 and 107.
He stressed that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini was committed to resolving Gurugram’s challenges and assured that positive results would be visible soon.
Addressing safety concerns, Khullar instructed Police Commissioner Vikas Arora to file cases against power department officials if electrocution incidents linked to overhead lines recur during the monsoon.
He further cancelled all leave for power staff until November and directed regular field inspections.
Officials were also ordered to act firmly against vehicles dumping external waste into Gurugram, enforce penalties for open garbage burning, and clear stray cattle and roadside debris.
