A state-of-the-art kitchen set up by Manav Dharm Shivir at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj is feeding over one lakh devotees daily, ANI reported, marking an extraordinary logistical feat at the world’s largest religious congregation.
The Shivir has deployed 500 cooks and over 2,000 to 3,000 volunteers for serving food and other services, ensuring seamless hospitality for the pilgrims.
"At least 1 lakh people have meals here daily...We have a lot of machines and people working for this...More than 500 people cook food here while there are over 2-3 thousand people for serving food and other service...We have 2,000 toilets, tents for people with water supplies and other facilities in the Shivir," a Shivir member told ANI.
The kitchen boasts advanced machinery capable of preparing food on a massive scale. "We have a machine which can make 2,000 rotis in one hour, this machine can make poori too, and works continuously. We also have machines for making rice, vegetables and to cut vegetables too. If we do not have those, then we cannot feed so many people every day," a Shivir representative explained.
The Maha Kumbh, held every 12 years, is a deeply spiritual event rooted in Sanatan Dharma. Pilgrims gather at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers—to take a holy dip, believed to absolve sins and grant moksha (liberation).
Since the event’s commencement on 13 January, over 110 million devotees have already participated, with a total of 450 million visitors expected by 26 February.
The celestial alignment that marks the Maha Kumbh creates an auspicious period for spiritual cleansing and devotion, drawing pilgrims from across the globe.
