The Beas River on the night of 25-26 August surged violently and washed away significant stretches of the Chandigarh-Manali highway between Kullu and Manali, also damaging numerous hotels and restaurants along the way, reported The Times Of India.

The floodwaters swept away a section of the Manali–Leh road at Vashisht Chowk near Manali, blocking that crucial route entirely.

Late Monday night (25 August), floodwater breached the Green Tax Barrier and Alu Ground in the vicinity of Manali, prompting local authorities to evacuate nearby shops and residences.

The waters also inundated Dev Lok, a well-known tourist site near 15 Mile. Tragically at least one restaurant near Manali has also been washed away in a flooded Beas river.

Former Manali MLA Govind Singh Thakur personally inspected the devastation on Tuesday morning (26 August).

The usual alternate route via the Mandi–Kamand–Kataula–Bajaura–Kullu link road also stayed blocked.

Amid a red alert from the weather department, authorities have ordered the closure of educational institutions across multiple districts—including Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, Una, Shimla, and Bilaspur—continuing into Tuesday as officials closely monitor the evolving disaster situation.
