A young woman from Arakkonam district accused her husband, reportedly linked to the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), of torture, sexual harassment, and coercing young women to have sexual relations with politicians, the NDTV reported.

The woman, a college student, alleged that her husband, Deivaseyal, who claimed to be the Deputy Secretary of the DMK youth wing, physically abused her and forced her into compromising situations.

She accused Deivaseyal of violent behaviour and threats, stating, “His job is to torture 20-year-old girls to sleep with politicians.” She further alleged he had threatened to kill her family if she approached the police and that he abused her in public.

“He assaulted me on the way to college... injured me and broke my phone. And he would say, 'if you complain nothing will happen as the police will support me',” she said. The woman added that the ongoing abuse even drove her to attempt suicide.

AIADMK Party leader Edappadi K Palaniswami accused the DMK of protecting the accused and claimed that the police only filed the complaint after intervention by AIADMK MLA S Ravi.

The DMK stated that it would not shield anyone guilty of wrongdoing and promised that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the police investigation.

The police have launched a preliminary probe, stating that there is currently no concrete evidence of sexual assault, although the woman's detailed complaint is under review.

Drawing parallels with the infamous 2019 Pollachi sex abuse case, Palaniswami launched a scathing attack on the DMK, accusing the government of inaction.

The Pollachi case, which took place during the AIADMK’s tenure, involved a gang that sexually assaulted and blackmailed multiple women. A key accused in that case was later expelled from the AIADMK.
